LAKE ALEXANDER PROPERTY OWNERS’ ASSOCIATION

BOARD MEETING

SUNDAY, APRIL 27, 2025, 6:00 P.M.

SCANDIA VALLEY TOWN HALL

Dr. Bill Faber called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM

Board Members Present:

Dr. Bill Faber, Darline Molde, Alice Sunde, Jim McGonigle, Bob Andersen, Doug Cook, Cade Roberts, Gene Champeau, Glen Hansmann

Secretary’s Report:

A motion was made by Doug Cook, seconded by Bob Andersen, to approve the minutes of the October 13, 2024, Board Meeting. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report:

Alice Sunde had a printout of transactions that occurred from October 14, 2024, to April 27, 2025. Dues receipts were $990.00, and total expenses were $1,755.61, leaving our checking account balance of $15,805.81.  Investments, which include Certificates of Deposit, totaled $19,262.54, bringing our association’s total to $35,068.35.

A motion was made by Bob Andersen, seconded by Jim McGonigle, to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Water Level:

Cade Roberts reported that, due to a lack of precipitation this winter, the water level is down at the present time.

Fisheries:

 Gene Champeau is in contact with Eric Altena and will publish the fisheries’ statistics when they become available.

Electrofishing was conducted in mid-April, and individual fishermen reported that a good number of walleyes were caught this winter in 35 feet of water.

Morrison County Land Use

Doug Cook reported that there is no activity on record pertaining to the sale or development of the Weyerhauser property.

Recently, property owners received a brochure of the 2025 Morrison County Shoreline District Guidelines, which contains a summary of key regulations.  Bill Faber will contact Morrison County to obtain additional copies for distribution at the annual meeting.

Shoreline Restoration:

Several property owners reported heavy shoreline damage due to ice heaving occurring in the winter months.

Doug Cook stated that 4 or 5 landowners have filled out applications to the MN Lakes and Rivers for assistance in shoreline restoration. Doug will continue to oversee the application process to ensure smooth processing and timely assistance. 

Membership

Treasurer Alice Sunde stated that the membership total for 2024 was at an all-time high with 398 paid members.

OLD BUSINESS

Secchi Disc /Chemical Monitoring:

Bob Anderson and Jim McGonigle will be in charge of Secchi disc readings during the spring, summer, and fall months.

Alice Sunde reported that RMB Labs is expanding their services, and she will contact them to ascertain if they will be able to test Lake Alex waters for toxic chemicals.  Alice highlighted the importance of the chemical monitoring program to safeguard the lake’s ecosystem.

NEW BUSINESS

Nominating committee:

The three Board incumbents whose terms are expiring are Dr. Bill Faber, Bob Andersen, and Glenn Hansmann.  All three have expressed their desire to have their names on the ballot for another three-year term.  A notice will be posted in the Morrison County Record and at the Town Hall, seeking additional property owners who desire to have their names on the ballot for a Board of Directors position.

A Nominating committee chairperson, along with 2 other Board members, will be appointed at the next Board Meeting.

LAPOA Facebook Page:

Doug Cook has initiated a Facebook page that contains information regarding LAPOA dues, benefits, contact for joining the property owners’ association, and directions to access the LAPOA website.

Spring Newsletter

Board Members are asked to submit articles to Darline Molde on or before June 1st to mail the newsletter and dues notice by mid-June. Suggested articles were Fisheries (Gene), Shoreline Restoration (Doug), Water Quality and First Responder donation (Jim), and LID/LAPOA (Ron Wieber/Bill Faber. Any additional articles will be most welcome!!!

 Scandia Valley First Response Donation:

Discussion was directed toward the needs of our local First Responders, who receive no monetary remuneration, and are in need of equipment, such as a retired ambulance, defibrillator batteries.   Discussion also included matching donation monies by the LAPOA, up to $2,000. 

In the 2025 spring dues notice, there will be a form to fill out if you wish to contribute any dollar amount to the First Responders, which will be strictly on a voluntary basis.

Annual Meeting Date: Saturday, August 9, 2025

The next Board Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, July 20,2025, 6:00 P.M.: Scandia Valley Town Hall.
